The Alpha Delta Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity was chartered in 1879. The Chapter has retained active status for 136 years, which is longer than any other fraternity at UNC Chapel Hill. Built from 1929 to 1931, the house of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity is located at 303 E. Franklin Street Chapel Hill, NC 27514. The active brotherhood consists of 60 members, all of whom are involved with the university and local community through campus involvement and philanthropic activities.
Every year, Alpha Tau Omega hosts a free Haunted House before Halloween for underprivileged children in local elementary and middle schools. In the Fall of 2010 Alpha Tau Omega co-hosted the inaugural Pickin’ on Pickard, a charity barbecue grill-out with live music, along with Lambda Chi Alpha, Zeta Tau Alpha, and Alpha Delta Pi, the proceeds of which went to food banks of Eastern North Carolina. Alpha Tau Omega-Alpha Delta’s capstone philanthropy event every year is the charity golf tournament hosted in conjunction with the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, with proceeds going to the Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County and Habitat for Humanity.
