The Alpha Tau Chapter of Sigma Chi was established in 1889 here in Chapel Hill. From the initial pledge class to the current day, our chapter has been dedicated to three primary principles: friendship, justice, and learning. Since 1924, the Sigma Chi house has been located at 102 Fraternity Court, a house that has seen FED-EX founder Arthur Smith, Tar Heel quarterback and now Houston Texan T.J. Yates, as well many other notable brothers pass through it. In accordance with the Spirit of Sigma Chi that calls for acceptance of all men regardless of background, our Alpha Tau Chapter makes a conscious effort to recruit quality out-of-state students in addition to North Carolinians. We currently have active brothers from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, New Jersey, Washington D.C., and Florida.
